Does anyone have a home remedy for acne that works really well? Also has anyone tried an oatmeal bath for acne? I dont know if it would help or not but id like to try it.
thanks
First, I understand where you’re coming from. I grew up with really bad acne, not only on my face but on my body as well. It was embarrassing and I tried everything including cleansers, creams, prescription medications, antibiotics, over the counter medications, and even shots from the dermatologist (ouch!) to get rid of it. I never did until many years later when it didn’t matter as much.
Here’s what I found out after lots of research and trial and error, the hard way.
It’s not a topical issue, it doesn’t help much to treat it from the outside, it’s an inside job. When you treat it from the outside it’s like treating the symptoms, not the cause. You’ll hear from many people that’s not the case, and it’s usually because they want you to buy their creams or lotions, and keep buying them month after month after month (or they haven’t experienced the truth). Of course, when you stop using it (as you’ve experienced) your blemishes come back… because you’re not treating the cause. And the costs for all of these routines/drugs add up month after month.
If you think about it logically, it makes sense. Why do we get rashes, breakouts, or other skin irritations? It’s usually because of something we ate, something that wasn’t meant to be put on our skin, something that caused us stress and our body reacts to all those things.
Bottom line is that most every cause of acne is related to what you eat, how you feel and how you take care of yourself. Your skin is a reflection of what’s on the inside. We have lots of toxins building up in our systems and they have to be cleaned out on the inside and that will reflect on the outside. The blemishes, rashes, acne, etc are indications that your body is reacting to what you’re eating, to stress, toxins, chemicals, hormones… literally a great number of things.
Basically what I did in a nutshell was clean out my system by taking out the processed and junk foods, and added as much fresh fruits and vegetables to my diet as possible. This part is key. I also started drinking a lot of water daily, starting with 3 or 4 glasses when I wake up (adding a squeeze of fresh lemon at times). I also got more active every day, walking, running, sports, jumping, whatever, just getting active. It not only gave me more energy, it help flush out the toxins that were clogging up my system.
I followed the regimen in these two books I found:

and
http://theacnenomore.blogspot.com/
There are little acne bumps on my lower forehead and one small one between my eyebrows.
I’ve tried so many facial scrubs, washes, lotions, masks that suppository "treat" acne. Is there any good home remedies that clears acne? Or should I just drink a lot of water and lay off the sugar? I’ve read that plain oatmeal mixed with honey treats acne, but i’m not sure what type of oatmeal to use. Please help, thanks
Use a mild soap for sensitive skin but it doesn’t matter exactly what type of soap you use. It can be designed for acne-prone skin or not, but you will want to treat your skin gently. Harsh antibacterial soap may actually make your acne worse by irritating skin.
Remove dead skin cells regularly by exfoliating. Use a gentle scrub with natural defoliants like ground walnut shells, or use an over-the-counter chemical defoliant like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. Adding ground walnut shell to a thick moisturizer like cocoa butter can be effective too. Take caution, because over-exfoliating can actually increase the likelihood of acne by irritating the skin. Pat dry, rather than rubbing, since rubbing can cause irritation to the fresh skin you’ve just revealed.
Use a good toner. Spray onto face or wipe on with a cotton ball and wipe off with a clean, dry cotton ball. This gets rid of excess cleanser and tightens pores. Good, inexpensive choices include plain witch hazel for normal to dry skin, lemon juice, or 3% hydrogen peroxide for oily skin. 70% ethyl rubbing alcohol can also be used for severe oiliness, but it can really dry out your skin and irritate it more. Some toners are medicated, and this stage is the best for using a medicated product if you’re only going to use one medication.
Bacteria in pores is one cause of spots. Reduce the amount of bacteria by using toners containing anti-bacterial agents like alcohol, peroxide and benzalkonium chloride, and by using creams that contain benzoyl peroxide (ask your doctor about benzaclin, with moisturizer if you have dry skin, as it works better than just plain benzoyl because benzoyl takes up to 8 weeks before improvement is seen) which kill bacteria as well as cause the skin to regenerate faster.

what home remedies can i use to clear acne and scars cause by acne
Lemon juice and baking soda are suppose to be pretty effective. Also apple cider vinegar. Some people swear by vitamin E although I have never tired it. I believe you just buy vitamin E tablets, punch a hole in one and smear on face. Although not a home remedy, I use 10% aha which seems to be working, although it does take a few weeks to see good results. Depending on the scars, you may have to see a dermatologist as deep and severe ones wont go away without some sort of laser/peel/high strength cream etc. Check out the forums at www.acne.org for some great ideas from people who are going through the same thing. THey have sections for scars and for holistic health, you may find something that works.

Remove any make-up you have on. Wearing make-up can clog pores, making them dirty and causing pimples. Also try to wear oil-free makeup (if you have oily skin) or a medicated makeup.

i used to get bad acne, now i jus have scars and the occasional pimple. but the real problem im having now is very very oily skin. mainly the nose and forehead. ive tried moisturizing my skin (and drinking plenty of water) and drying it out. i use tazorac and benziclin. is there any way to treat naturally oily skin, also are there any good foundation/coverups that stay on through sweat/oil. thanks!
This is what I do:
Mix baking soda and witch hazel/or water together until it comes to a good constancy, and then spread on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. these two things are very inexpensive and it’s very easy to do since there is only two ingredients.
Toothpaste is good for drying out your pimple (for some people). Put only a little bit before you go to sleep. Some people use this as a mask but DON‘T EVER DO THIS! It can change your skin tone and make your face discolored.
Aloe vera helps scars lighten and less noticeable (lemon, cocoa butter, witch hazel, and tea tree oil do the same thing). Use the gel (of the aloe plant) or the real thing.
Try to buy a cleanser that works for you, and when you wash your face, open your pores with hot water (not too hot, or it will dry out your skin) and massage it gently into your skin. Then, use cold water at the end to close you pores. The smaller your pores are, the less likely you’re prone to pimples. Clearasil, Neutrogena, and proactive are good choices to start if you want a cleanser. Don’t use body soaps because they dry out your skin. Don’t scrub too hard either, because it can irritate your skin.
An egg yoke can be used to make you pores smaller. I used this when I had pimples. Just take the egg yolk (the yellow part) and leave it on your face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water and then splash your face with cold water.
Keep your hair out of your face because the oils in your hair could go into your pores. Change you sheets because they’re are trapped with dirt, oils, etc.
Zinc (type of vitamin) is the one of the best things you can use to get rid of pimples. You can buy these almost about any large store (such as Wal-Mart or Shaws.) Have one tablet per day and try to cut down the junk food and replace it with vegetables and fruits. Drink lots of water and don’t pop you acne. Popping acne can lead to acne scars.
If you have sensitive skin, don’t use make up. Some of the things in make up can clog your pores and cause pimples. Keep your hands out of your face as much as you can because you hands a full of bacteria and oils.
I’m sick of this stereotyping.People are always thinking i;m this strong guy who can handle anything.Because i have a naturally big build/I’m only 22.Just because i’m big dose’nt mean i am not going to be sel;f concious about having acne scars.I want to treat them and i don;t feel bad about it.SHould I?
I work with less fortunate people in the looks department and they think i;m rediculous. But i want to feel good about myself again what’s wrong with that?
I see absolutely no connection between the two.
I have mild acne, and acne scars. What are ways of treating them?
& how much water should I consume in one day?
You should start by taking multivitamins, a lot of us don’t get the nutrients we need for our bodies to take care of things like skin and scars. I think you should also use creams or soaps for the acne, like certain products from Clean & Clear or Neutrogena. Drink water when you are thirsty, but if your urine is yellow after doing this then experiment with amounts until you notice that your urine is clear. (The amount is different for everyone.)
I have acne scars all over my back. Some are light scars but others are deeper and red marks. Are there any effective home remedies for acne scars
For best results, you’ll want to treat your scars both internally and externally. That means you need to treat your body right so it has what it needs to repair your skin - makes sense, right?
Then, treat the outside with a scar cream that contains the most important ingredients like Vitamin E and cocoa butter and skin conditioners.
I liked this site’s 3-step recommendations:
http://www.whatimnot.com/cosmetics/acne-…
When I realized that I needed to get more vitamins and sleep and water, my scars started fading much faster than with just creams. Hope that helps!
